Commiphora mukul (Indian Bedellium)
Guggul:
The plant gum resin has been used in
traditional ayurvedic medicine for
centuries in the treatment of a variety
of disorders most notably in
inflammations, tumors, glandular
enlargement, thyroid dysfunctions and
also as a lipid lowering and
weight-reducing agent. As per one
clinical study, administration of guggul
extract reversed the condition of
hypothyroidism (decrease in thyroid
hormone concentration) and increased
hepatic 5'D-I activity simultaneously,
this effect indicates its potential to
stimulate thyroid function. It’s equally
effective in
Hyperthyroidism.
Its anti inflammatory
and cholesterol lowering effect has been
widely studied. It has been found that Guggulsterone, a plant steroid present
in Commiphora mukul, suppresses DNA
binding of NF-B
and NF-B-regulated
gene products induced by tumor
necrosis factor (TNF), phorbol
ester, okadaic acid, cigarette
smoke condensate, hydrogen
peroxide, and interleukin-1 which
explains its anti-inflammatory and
anticancerous action. It is also found
to reduce the stickiness of platelets
which compliments to its fibrinolytic
action. It’s also a proven anti oxidant.

Bauhinia variegata (Mountain
Ebony) Kanchnar:
According to
Ayurveda, it is an
astringent tonic useful in scrofula
(swelling of lymph nodes of the neck),
tumors, skin diseases, ulcers, leprosy,
diarrhea, dysentery and hemorrhoids. A
safe and effective herb known for its
anti inflammatory, healing and laxative
properties which makes it a natural
choice against conditions like fistula
in ano, hemorrhoids, fissures etc. In
ayurvedic texts it is told to have
special affinity towards lymphatic
system as it is found to be useful in
infective and inflammatory conditions of
lymph glands. Especially effective in
swelling of lymph nodes of the neck due
to tuberculosis (Scrofula). The chemo
preventive and cytotoxic effect (on
tumor cells) of extract of Bauhinia
variegata was evaluated in N-nitrosodiethylamine
induced experimental liver tumor and
human cancer cell lines.
Oral
administration of extract of Bauhinia variegata effectively suppressed liver
tumor and decreased the elevated levels
of liver enzymes. The extract also
produced an increase in enzymatic
antioxidant (superoxide dismutase and
catalase) levels and total proteins when
compared to those in liver tumor
bearers. The histopathological changes
of liver samples were compared with
respective controls. Extract of Bauhinia
variegata was not only effective against
liver tumors but also found to be
cytotoxic against human epithelial
larynx cancer and human breast cancer
cells. The antitumour activity of the
extract of Bauhinia variegata (EBV) has
also been evaluated against Dalton's
ascitic lymphoma (DAL). It was found to
enhance peritoneal cell counts and was
able to reverse the changes in the
hematological parameters, protein and
PCV consequent to tumor inoculation. A
glycoside O-beta-galactopyranoside found
in Bauhinia showed excellent
anti-inflammatory activity.

Asphaltum (Mineral Pitch) Shilajit:
King Rasayna ruled by Sun. The
Ayurvedic medicine Shilajit is a natural
mineral pitch or resin rich in healing
qualities. It is very high in minerals,
particularly iron, calcium, and
manganese. Also contains benzoic acid,
which gives it a peculiar resin/incense
flavor. According to Ayurveda, there is
hardly any imbalance which is not
alleviated by Shilajit, either used
alone or in conjunction with specific
herbs. It is especially recommended in
debility, lack of vitality and is deeply
nourishing to the whole body.
Shilajit
is a purifying to all body systems,
cleansing the digestive tract, lungs,
liver, kidneys, urinary tract, skin,
etc. It stimulates the purification of
these areas, and also acts as an
antiseptic and disinfectant, and is used
for fungal, yeast and other pathogenic
or infectious conditions. Shilajit is
also a diuretic and anti-spasmodic. Like
many Ayurvedic tonics, Shilajit is often
used with other herbs to direct its
action, for chronic digestive imbalance,
it is used with Triphala and helps in
fistula in ano, hemorrhoids. When used
with Spheranthus indicus helps in cystic
ovary, fibrocystic breasts, makes a good
combination with Commiphora mukul for
thyroid disorders, acts as anti tumor
when used with Bauhinia variegata. Its
synergistic effect is due to its high
fulvic acid which helps carry herbal
compounds deep into the tissues of the
body. Due to such qualities it
is an effective remedy in
digestive upset, tuberculosis,
elephantiasis, BPH and malignancy of
prostate.

Spheranthus indicus (East Indian
Globe-thistle) Gorkhmundi:
All the parts of the plant have medicinal
uses. The plant is widely used in
treating vitiated conditions of
hemicranias, hepatopathy, fever,
gastropathy, hernia, hemorrhoids,
helminthiasis, dyspepsia and skin
diseases. It reduces any abnormal
nodular growth. The plant is specially
useful in treating scrofula (Tubercular
adenitis). When used with Acacia
catechu this herb
is beneficial in treating fistula in ano, edema, filariasis and cervical
adenopathy. A decoction prepared out of Sphrenthus indicus is used as home
remedy for benign and malignant tumors.

Praval Panchmrita (Five
Ambrosia):
Unique
ayurvedic combination of Coral, Pearl,
Conch Shell, Cowrie and Pearl Oyster
shell. Here Coral acts as a
pitta pacifying, Pearl acts as
both blood purificatory and pitta
pacifying and the remaining three increases
digestive fire, digests Ama (toxins) and
replenishes the body tissue and prevents
the cells from unnatural decay. The
synergistic effect of all five makes
good choice against Kapha–Pitta
disorders especially of abdominal
region. They all in combination improve
the functioning of gall bladder, liver,
pancreas and spleen and dissolves the
tumors of these regions specifically.
Recommended as one of the best remedy
for fibroid uterus and other fibro
nodular growths. Their Kapha–Pitta
pacifying action makes a good remedy
against chronic disorders of respiratory
origin like tuberculosis. This classical
formula controls the infection and act
as good immunomodulator and brain tonic
which helps increase the internal
intelligence of the body and checks auto
immune disorders.

Acacia catechu (Cutch
Tree) Khadir:
A widely used astringent and cooling herb
containing high amount of catechin and
catechutannic acid which constitute its
haemostatic action in the conditions
like tuberculosis, bleeding piles,
fistula in ano etc. Taxifolin present in
acacia has anti bacterial, anti fungal
,anti viral, anti inflammatory and
antioxidant properties thus acts as a
good prophylactic against infective
conditions like tuberculosis and
inflammatory conditions like
lymphadenitis etc.
By virtue of its
antioxidant property, it also prevents
uncontrolled cell growth by inhibiting
the proteins responsible for cell growth
thus prevents occurrence of tumors
(abnormal cell growth) and useful in the
treatment of cancer. This can be used as
a protective measure in cancer patients
undergoing radiation therapy, since it
has been demonstrated that radiation
therapy causes mutations and cancer due
to increased production of free
radicals. Several antioxidant compounds
have been recognized in acacia which
have ability to induce apoptosis (cell
death) in various tumour cells of human
origin. In one clinical assessment, its
use in mammary tumor resulted in
decreased tumor burden and tumor
incidence, and a delay in the onset of
mammary tumors.

Triphala [Emblica
officinalis (Indian Gooseberry),
Terminalia belerica (Beleric Myrobalan),
Terminalia chebula (Chebulic Myrobalan)]:
Triphala is considered a 'Tridoshic
Rasayana', having balancing and
rejuvenating effects on the three
constitutional elements that govern
human life: Vata which regulates the
nervous system, Pitta which maintains
metabolic processes and Kapha which
supports structural integrity. Triphala
combines both nutritional as well as
blood and liver cleansing (detoxifying)
actions. It is a source of nourishment
and also possesses some bitter
anthroquinones which help stimulate bile
flow and peristalsis.
The nutritional
aspect is partly in the form of its bioflavonoids, high vitamin C content
and the presence of linoleic acid,
phospholipids and other important
nutrients which makes it more than a
tonic. It is a good antioxidant, anti
inflammatory (constituents include Vit.
C and quercetin) anti-viral (HIV, AIDS,
herpes, CMV), anti-bacterial,
anti-cancer and anti-allergic agent.
Unlike other eliminative and cleansing
herbs, Triphala is safely taken as
laxative even in debilitating condition
such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, AIDS
etc. Its healing and laxative property
helps in piles, fissure and fistula in ano by keeping the stools soft which
reduces pain during defecation and
prevents further injury to the ano
rectal tissue. Researches found that
Triphala “possessed the unique ability
to induce cytotoxicity (cell death) in
tumor cells sparing the normal cells.

Trikatu (Zingiber officinale,
Piper longum, and Piper nigrum):
Trikatu is a Sanskrit
word meaning “three spices”. It contains
fruits of black pepper (Piper nigrum),
Indian long pepper (Piper longum) and
the rhizomes of ginger (Zingiber
officinalis). It liquefies hardened Kapha
and increases Pitta and Agni (fire) and
burns away the Ama (toxins). It is
strongly heating and revives weak
organic functions. Trikatu is an
anti-mucus and digestive stimulant used
to improve gastric and respiratory
function. It is useful in cases of
hypothyroidism, slow metabolism,
congestion, edema, high cholesterol,
high triglycerides, obesity and weak
digestion. Its oral administration
promotes the secretion of digestive
juices and increases appetite. Trikatu
stimulates the formation of hydrochloric
acid and also helps to inhibit gaseous
distension. It is prescribed as an
essential part of many multi-herb
preparations, as it has been shown to
increase the bioavailability of
nutrients, foods, and medicines. It
promotes rapid absorption of nutrients
by the gastrointestinal tract.

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum)
Dalchini:
Cinnamon has a long history both as a
spice and as a medicine. Cinnamon
is high in antioxidant activity. The
essential oil of cinnamon also has
antimicrobial properties. This property
may allow cinnamon to extend the shelf
life of foods and medicine. Cinnamon's unique healing abilities come from three
basic types of components present in the
essential oils extracted from its
bark. These oils contain active
components called cinnamaldehyde,
cinnamyl acetate, and cinnamyl
alcohol, plus a wide range of other
volatile substances.
Cinnamaldehyde
(also called cinnamic aldehyde) has been
well-researched for its effects on blood
platelets. The cinnaldehyde in cinnamon
helps prevent unwanted clumping of blood
platelets. (The way it accomplishes this
health-protective act is by inhibiting
the release of an inflammatory fatty
acid called arachidonic acid from
platelet membranes and reducing the
formation of an inflammatory messaging
molecule called thromboxane A2.)
Cinnamon's ability to lower the release
of arachidonic acid from cell membranes
also puts it in the category of an
"anti-inflammatory" food that can be
helpful in lessening inflammation.
Cinnamon's essential oils also qualify
it as an "anti-microbial" food, and
cinnamon has been studied for its
ability to help stop the growth of
bacteria as well as fungi, including the
commonly problematic yeast Candida.
In laboratory tests, growth of yeasts
that were resistant to the commonly used
anti-fungal medication, was often
(though not always) stopped by cinnamon
extracts. It may be used in the treatment
of some fungal tumors.

Cassia
lignae
(Cinnamomum tamala) Tej
patra:
It is widely used in pharmaceutical
preparations because of its
hypoglycemic, stimulant and carminative properties. It promotes digestion and
ensures normal movement of Vata thus
helps in conditions like perirectal
fistula, piles, fissure etc. Leaves of
C. tamala are used in colic and
diarrhoeal preparations. Hydrodistilled
essential oils of C. tamala screened for
anti-fungal activity and exhibited
fungicidal or fungistatic toxicity and
were more effective than the synthetic
antifungal agents so can be used against
tumors of fungal origin. It is also
beneficial in controlling elevated
glucose and blood lipid levels and
improves metabolism. Oral Consumption
of Cinamomum tamala has a strong effect
in lowering blood pressure, making it
potentially useful to those suffering
from Hypertension.

flavoring agent and to treat infections
and to prevent and treat throat
troubles, congestion of the lungs and
pulmonary
tuberculosis. It maintains
metabolic fire and checks the build up
of Ama (toxins) thus ensures proper
digestion and assimilation of other
herbs and nutrients. Also relieves
stomachaches,
constipation,
dysentery, and other digestion
problems.
