  Latin Name Eclipta alba
English Name Trailing Eclipta
Hindi Name Bhringaraj
Part Used Whole Plant

This is the main herb for the hair and liver health in Ayurveda. This herb is found throughout India and the southwestern U.S. Bhringaraj is a creeping and moisture-loving herb; it has a short, flat or round stem and small white flowers on a long stalk. It grows 3" tall; the leaves are opposite and lance shaped. The whole plant of bhringraj has great medicinal value. It is equally useful both, internally as well as externally. It is used with success in Ayurvedic as liver tonic, rejuvenative and especially good for the hair.

1The herb is used as tonic and deobstruent in hepatic and spleen enlargements and in skin diseases. A preparation obtained from the leaf juice boiled with sesame or coconut oil is used for anointing the head to render the hair black and luxuriant.

2The herb contains wedelolactone and demethylwedelolactone possessing potent antihepatotoxic property.It is reported to be effective in the treatment of peptic ulcers.Immunoactive property has also been observed against surface antigen of hepatitis B-Virus. 3, 4 Eclipta alba is traditionally known to potentiate hair growth promotion.
