It is a classical
Ayurvedic brain tonic. Brahmi means “divine” and refers to Saraswati,
the Goddess of Speech, Creativity and sacred Knowledge. It increases the
natural ability of the body to throw off the effects of stress and other
negative emotions.
1Concentrated
extract of Brahmi contains the active molecules Bacoside A &B. Bacoside A.
2Antistress effects of bacosides of Bacopa monnieri was
evaluated in different studies. 3Bacopa extract prophylaxis
also prevented the depletion of reduced glutathione, thiol levels, and
perturbations in antioxidant enzymes caused by 3-NPA. Collectively these
findings provide evidence on the significant prophylactic
neuroprotective efficacy of Brahmi exract in prepubertal mice brain.
It is also helpful in protecting brain against oxidative-mediated
neurodegenerative disorders involving oxidative stress conditions. 4Biochemically,
nervous-system effects of Brahmi have been attributed to an enhancement of
the effects of the neurotransmitters acetylcholine and possibly serotonin
or GABA (Gamma Amino Butyric Acid).
Brahmi is Medhya
Rasayana herb and mainly balances Prana Vata and Sadhaka Pitta. It
nourishes brain and brings the co-ordination between mind, body and
consciousness and promotes purity at the level of thoughts and emotions. |
