Phyllanthus emblica
(Indian Gooseberry) Amalaki:
Amalaki is the most
often mentioned herb in Ayurveda as a "wonder rasayana". The fruit
of Amalaki is reputed to have one of the highest content of vitamin
C of any natural occurring substances in nature.
It promotes longevity and nourishes all the tissues of the
body. It has a reputation as a powerful rejuvenating herb.
Researches prove that
when Amalaki is taken regularly as a dietary supplement, it
counteracts the toxic effects of prolonged exposure to environmental
heavy metals, such as lead, aluminum and nickel. In the studies, the
pro-oxidant or oxygen radical scavenger qualities of emblica suggest
that it is also very effective in lowering the risk of many chronic
disorders.
Amalaki contains natural
tannins that prevent the oxidation of vitamin content in dry
condition, in other words, it is heat stable. Studies indicate that
the naturally occurring vitamin C of Amalaki is easier for the body
to absorb than synthetic vitamin.
Amalaki delays the aging process and maintains cellular nutritional
quality. Chyawanprasha, one of the classical ayurvedic preparation
with antiaging effect is based on Amla as its main ingredients.
