Asparagus racemosus
(Indian Asparagus) Shatavari:
The natural estrogen-like phytohormones are
present in Shatavari that are becoming popular
as an alternative choice to HRT in conditions
like menopause, osteoporosis and breast
cancer. There are two types of bone cells –
Osteoblasts and Osteoclasts. Osteoblasts help
to generate bone and Osteoclasts loosen the
bones by removing its mineralized matrix. The
balance of these two activities results in
good or bad condition of bones. When estrogen
becomes deficient such as during menopause;
osteoclast activity overpowers the osteoblast
functioning resulting in decay of bony tissue.
Asparagus is rich in other micronutrients like
Glutathione, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, and
Vitamins like C, E, B12 and B6, which are
responsible for tissue building including
building of bone tissues.
